Tony Pickett
15.07.1953 - 27.07.2016

I had this website created about Tony out of love, respect and pride of family and friends, who continue to miss him. It’s a digital legacy and my hope is that Tony is therefore not an anonymous name on a gravestone, but that through the QR code you can see something of the man that ‘lived’. This is a first for Memorial Woodlands and I would like to thank Summers Stonemasons for their hard work in reproducing the QR code and ensuring it will be long lasting.

About Tony

Tony liked the ‘great’ outdoors with hiking and walking a constant activity throughout his life. For quite a few years he enjoyed wind surfing and rock climbing and then took up running at 49 completing regular half marathons. Every holiday there was an activity to try – the video of him paragliding two weeks before his death is testament to this.
For the last 10 years of his life Tony took great pleasure from singing with the Bath Chorus and Bath Male Choir. More sedentary interests were watching Rugby (he was a member of the Bath Rugby club) and reading, he always had a book on the go! Deeply knowledgeable about social and economic history, Tony felt passionately about social injustice and his politics were determinedly ‘left’. Unsurprisingly therefore Tony was a social worker who went on to teach social work for 25 years at Wiltshire College – retiring as the programme leader for the BSc in social work in 2015.
Tony shared his interests and values with his family and, though he left behind a legacy to be proud of, said his greatest achievement was having his children. Tony was good company with a great sense of humour and infectious laugh, as well as being a good listener who was genuinely interested in others.
Tony died suddenly of a heart attack whilst out riding his bike. Not long before he died he said ‘I’ve had a good life’. We are grateful to know this, but just wish he had been able to enjoy a longer life.
We miss him.

Bath Male Choir and The Bath Chorus

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the Bath Male Choir and The Bath Chorus led by Grenville Jones. These choirs have been quite extraordinary in dedicating 2017 to raising money, in memory of Tony, for the British Heart Foundation. Tony loved to sing and they have truly honoured his membership by raising an incredible £12,440!
Special thanks must also go to Simon Kale, a fellow choir member, for his amazing achievement of running the London Marathon and raising over £5,800!
